some more finds.

I found this 'friendship candleholder' at the thrift store for $4. I have always wanted a 'circle of friends' and this one holds a little tea light. lucky me.

The label was still on the bottom so I looked up the company that sold it. "Ten Thousand Villages"
I've never heard of them before, but they seem to be a big company that gathers work from many different villages and sells them. This piece was hand carved out of orange, pink, white Kisii stone, a type of soap stone found only in a small area of western Kenya.

I usually don't go into the furniture area of the thrift store; it is out in a garage, and I never seem to see anything good in there when I do go in. But today I found this coffee table and knew it had great potential. There were two exactly the same... but I just got one of them. I forgot to take pictures before I started painting though. There is a piece of glass that drops into the table over the iron work. I think it will turn out fabulous!
I'm thinking that some day I would love to open a little shop. I will refurbished items to give them style and then sell them. It will be the best store ever, especially if everyone still wants to Go Green by that time. I see 'going green' as a great way to make money without having to spend a lot.

celebrate summer shopping.

My love for thrift shopping, yard sale-ing, and bargain hunting is growing stronger every time I go. Let me assure everyone that I am very pick about what I buy. I don't buy something because it is a good price! If I did, I would be broke by now! I only buy what I know I will use.

Last weekend Chad and I went to the Scotland Festival and so I had to forego the yard sales in Park City. So to make up for the loss, I stopped by the local thrift store. I don't expect much from thrift stores, so I feel like I got lucky today!
cute summer dress, a pair of cute BKE jeans, and a pair of linen pants. all very cute and new looking!

So the reason that I am blogging about all of this is because I learned something new about the human psychology. Well, and least my own psychology.

I have always tried to take pride in everything that I decide to own. Meaning, take good care of it, love it, use it well, etc. And if those things aren't happening with something I own, then I sell it or give it away. For instance, my wedding dress. I just sold it for a cheap $100. because it is big, and was not being used! :)
Anyway, I thought that items bought at a yard sale would simply be 'not used' in a different house, with a different owner. That is how I use to think of yard sales. Junk being moved around because we can't stand to throw it out ourselves!

But that has not been the case with me. In fact, it seems like the very opposite has happened. I love the things that I get, like, some how it 'came' to me. So... I love it more than if I went and bought it at Pier 1. It is more fun to have because it is like 'buried treasure'!
Also the pressure of buying isn't there as much. Buying what you don't absolutly need at a regular store can lead to buyers remorse! bad feeling to have... especially if it was a lot of money. But with yard sale items, the pressure of "I better absolutely love this item for a LONG time, because I paying huge bucks for it" isnt' there at all. It makes shopping fun again!
happy day.

Girls Gone Wild -- for park city yardsales

Last Saturday Anita (my sister) and I went to Park City yard sales! Now I know that "yard sale addiction" runs thick in my parent's blood... so it is no wonder that after my first "hit" I am now an addict. Perhaps it's the feeling of finding that treasure that you have wanted but weren't willing to pay Sears $30 for it... And you get it for $2! That is a rewarding feeling!
Ever since I was a little girl I have these thrilling dreams of someone giving me: things they didn't want, or hand-me-downs and even brand new stuff straight out of the store! These dreams were always my favorite, and I would be so disappointed to wake up knowing I really didn't have all that cool stuff I just dreamt of..
But now I know why I was having all those dreams, they were trying to lead me to Yard Sale-ing!

alright, I am exaggerating a bit... but still it's fun. Here are a couple pics of what I got at last week's yardsales.

This picture is really dark so you can't really see it, but the pillow on the left is an olive green color and the one on the right (my favorite) is a more true green.

These bed side tables are brand new from Pier 1 Imports! They are a dark brown, almost black color which match our bookshelves. They will look so great!

So my plan is to show you the pieces I collect each week, and by the end of the summer we will be moving into my parent's basement where I will make a video showing how it all comes together! xoxo
